The Forage Sisters
A Journey Through Nature’s Beauty
As little girls, Ashley and Kristin were taught by their mother and grandmother the importance of flowers, plants and the value of surrounding oneself with the beauty of nature.
One cold Thanksgiving weekend, Grandma Sigrid suggested they go for a walk. As they strolled, she pointed out the wonders of their surroundings and they picked dried forest ferns, snowberry, fall leaves, evergreens and pinecones. Love of foraging and arranging became a cherished reminder of time together as a family. From their heritage, they continue to search for beauty in each season bringing something to be found and collected.
A jar of yellow daffodils on the kitchen counter in early spring brings hope.
Grandma’s crystal bowl filled to overflowing with May’s scents: lilacs, viburnums, irises, peonies, and roses.
A little spice jar with lavender and pink dianthus or a single garden rose.
An earthenware pitcher holding fall textures: rust amaranths, scabiosa pods, smoke bush, dried yarrow and dahlias.
The hardy winter fragrance of pine, cedar, pinecones, and red twig dogwood.
Now as the proud owners of Quincys florist and plant shop, Ashley and Kristin continue to embrace their heritage by seeking out beauty in every season. While their blooms may come from all over the world, they often gravitate towards locally sourced, seasonal flowers and foliage, always returning to their roots.
